Chapter 1 Introduction to Communication Studies
Key Words- Reflection, Internal.

One form of communication is intrapersonal communication which uses reflective thinking as well as an internal voice inside our heads. A way for people to process thoughts, decisions and emotions. Intrapersonal communication plays a role in understanding ourselves and navigating the world.
This cartoon shows a person talking to herself in the mirror as a form of intrapersonal communication. While she is not moving her mouth she is having an internal and private conversation with herself. Offering herself encouragement, reassurance or maybe even constructive criticism.
Self-talk can be motivational, reflective or even strategic which most people do throughout the day without noticing. A way for people to release their emotions internally, or even rehearse what they want to say or do in moments to come.
Personally, I use intrapersonal communication in order to keep myself calm in stressful situations as well as boosting my mood in the mornings. I am not a morning person so starting off the day looking at myself in the mirror and giving myself a quick pep talk before starting my day has been beneficial. This creates a positive mindset for the rest of the day ahead so I am able to feel more in control.
