Keywords- surveillance, global village, opinion leaders.
Mass communication is the process of delivering messages to large, diverse audiences through television, radio, social media or newspaper. One aspect of mass communication is surveillance which refers to the media monitors and reports on events occurring locally or around the world to help the public stay informed. Media helps people to connect and become a global village in real time to make information more accessible. Within mass communication opinion leaders are highly informed and influential in shaping public opinion by interpreting messages and sharing views with others to better understand and respond to the news.
Based on the cartoon above it shows a boy holding a newspaper in one hand and a mic in the other announcing information. This is a form of mass communication since he is delivering messages to a wide audience. Holding a bag of newspapers in order to keep the public informed about what’s occurring around the world. The ongoing distribution of information about current events.
This relates to me in my career since delivering messages through social media to inform people of health issues. This way I can connect to people in real time and make it more accessible especially to underserved communities. Just like the boy in the cartoon my goal is to spread awareness even digitally.
